2024 All-Star Weekend schedule and format

Schedule:

Get ready for an action-packed NBA All-Star Weekend from February 16 to February 18, 2024! The excitement kicks off in Indianapolis, where the city hosts the All-Star festivities for the first time since 1985. Gainbridge Fieldhouse, home of the Indiana Pacers, will be the home of this year’s activities.

Throughout the weekend different events will take place, like the NBA Rising Stars game on Feb. 16, the HBCU Classic presented by AT&T on Feb. 17, and other fun events like the Kia Skills Challenge, Starry 3-Point Contest, and AT&T Slam Dunk contest. And the weekend will come to an end with the anticipated 73rd NBA All-Star Game.

Format:

The 2024 NBA All-Star Game brings back the classic match-up between the Eastern and Western Conferences, adding a touch of nostalgia to the event. They’ll play using the traditional scoring system, with four 12-minute quarters. But the twist this year is that each team will compete to win every quarter for charity, supporting different organizations. With stars like Giannis Antetokounmpo and LeBron James leading the way, it’s sure to be an exciting game with a big impact off the court too.

2024 NBA All-Star starters

The process for selecting NBA All-Star starters is a collaborative effort between fans, current players, and the media, each accounting for a specific percentage of the vote. The 2024 NBA All-Star Game captains were determined by the players who received the most fan votes.

Eastern conference starters in the All-Star game:

In the Eastern Conference, Milwaukee Bucks‘ star Giannis Antetokounmpo earned the captaincy, joined by his fellow starters Joel Embiid of the Philadelphia 76ers, Jayson Tatum from the Boston Celtics, Tyrese Haliburton representing the Indiana Pacers, and Damian Lillard of the Milwaukee Bucks.

Western conference starters in the All-Star game:

Over in the Western Conference, Los Angeles Lakers‘ icon LeBron James emerged as the captain, leading a lineup featuring Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns, Nikola Jokić from the Denver Nuggets, Luka Dončić representing the Dallas Mavericks, and Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Reserves:

Meanwhile, NBA coaches select the reserves, ensuring a diverse representation of talent across positions and conferences. Commissioner Adam Silver also steps in to select replacements for any players unable to participate in the All-Star Game, this inclusive process ensures that the best players in the league have the opportunity to showcase their skills at the highly anticipated event.

Talking about replacements, Julius Randle and Joel Embiid face uncertainty due to injuries leaving potential openings in the East roster. NBA Commissioner Adam Silver named Trae Young and Scottie Barnes as their injury replacements. Barnes, the 2021-22 Kia NBA Rookie of the Year, has been named an NBA All-Star for the first time while this is Young’s third NBA All-Star selection.

Celebrating New Faces

Congratulations are in order for Tyrese Maxey, Paolo Banchero, and Jalen Brunson as they make their first appearances on the All-Star stage. Their inclusion highlights both their individual achievements and the league’s commitment to recognizing emerging talents.
